The Galileo Open-Air Cinema | Under the stars
Movies were made for the big screen. Even better when you’re outdoors, under the stars. Enter stage left The Galileo Open-Air Cinema. A regular summer feature on Cape Town’s event scene, the line-up changes subtly year on year but includes a variety of classics – Pretty Woman, The Lion King, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, The Great Gatsby.
‘You work on commission, right? Big mistake. Big. Huge. I have to go shopping now.’ – Vivian Ward, Pretty Woman
Wander into your chosen venue* and all you need to do is pick up your blanket and backrest, then find a spot to chill in front of the super-sized inflatable screen. Doors open between 4pm and 6pm, depending on the location – and, while you can bring your own picnic, vendors are on hand before the movie starts, serving everything from Seattle coffee to nachos to popcorn. Once the sun has set, the movie starts.
The full line-up is available online, with the season running until April 2017. While tickets are usually available at the door – provided the show isn’t sold out – pick them up via Webtickets for a guaranteed spot. There are no card machines at the venue so remember to take cash.
