Real-Life Paradise | India Hicks Island Style (Rizzoli)
India Hicks’s lineage is legendary, a backstory whose highlights include nobility (her grandfather, Lord Mountbatten, was the last viceroy to India and her godfather is Prince Charles) and design prestige (her father was famous decorator David Hicks).
Her own effortlessly Bohemian style, however, is just as iconic, perhaps even more so, and has inspired imitators around the world with its charming balance of Caribbean tropicality and English colonial motifs.
A former model and jewellery designer, she’s created collections for Crabtree & Evelyn and home décor accessories but her creative skill is perhaps best showcased in the home she shares with her family on Harbour Island in the Bahamas, a relaxed but chic balance of personal touches and timeless pieces.
Island Style is a mix of personal memorabilia – archival images offering a voyeuristic look into her family history, behind-the-scenes snaps of her life with her husband David Flint Wood and their five children – and decorating how-to, in 10 chapters of beautifully shot images.
